The First settlers - Summer Learning Journey.

My first task is to explain three new facts that I have learnt from reading a book called Maui and the giant fish. This book is based on the Maori people and their culture
fact one - the fish that was chopped up by Maui's greedy brothers now represent places of Aotearoa.
fact 2 - Maui proved his brothers wrong and the people he returned to was happy and saw his true goodness and natural abilities.
fact 3 - The big chunks of meat the brothers cut out turned out to be plants, birds and more.
This is what I have learnt when reading Maui and the giant fish, my main three interesting facts that I have learnt and some cool facts about their culture.

other stories about the legends.
Maui and the sun.
How Maui found his mother.

Welcome to see you have made a start on the Summer Learning Journey and completed the first task. I'm going to be following your journey over the Summer break.
I hope you had a great Christmas with your Whanau and are enjoying the holidays so far.

Great effort sharing 3 detailed facts about Maui and the Giant Fish Annie. Where have you read these stories of Maui? My favourite is Maui and the Sun. I think that one is his most famous story ever!!
Well done adding in an image also to show your readers what early settlers looked like in New Zealand arriving from Polynesia. Maybe next time you could add a link into your post so that your readers from other countries can read the stories of Maui and read them for themselves. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jbM3PwcGi0g

    Blog you Later.

  3. Malo e lelei Annie,

my name is Cia. I am a Summer Learning Journey blogger who will be working with Ako Hiko bloggers over the summer break.
Thank you for posting some great facts. I can tell you were really focussed on the activity because of the the great attention to detail I see in your writing! Perhaps next time you could include some pictures of Māui so that readers can see the hero behind the legends.

I really adore Māui and the Sun, I remember reading it a lot when I was little and thinking about how brave and cool Māui was. Have you hear the story of how Māui brought fire to the world?

    You can read it here:

Let me know what you think!

  4. Kia Ora Annie,

Cadence here from the Summer Learning Journey team!

Great to see you putting so much care and effort into your posting!
I really enjoyed reading this! You have some great information in here!
I’m curious, what is your favourite story about Maui? Mine would have to be how he slowed down the sun. He showed determination, strength and skill in catching that naughty sun!

Keep up the great work. I can’t wait to read more of your blog posts!

    Cadence :)
